Is this the new normal? The American political landscape is increasingly using the language of the internet, and this time, it's through the pixelated world of Stardew Valley. The current administration is leveraging memes and pop culture references to communicate its agenda. Previously, we've seen nods to Pokémon, Halo, and even pop star Sabrina Carpenter's music to promote various initiatives. Now, the White House is at it again, using an AI-generated image inspired by the beloved farming simulator to promote a policy change: the return of whole milk to school lunches.
On January 14th, a law was signed that would bring back whole milk to school lunches, reversing a restriction from the Obama era. While this policy change might seem minor, it's the way the message is being delivered that's raising eyebrows.
The White House's use of Stardew Valley imagery is the latest example. The AI-generated image features a rather unflattering pixelated Trump, complete with a MAGA hat and a cop badge. He's shown saying, "We're bringing back Whole Milk and Making America Healthy Again."
But here's where it gets controversial... Look closely at the gold count in the screenshot: 45464748. This seemingly innocuous detail is actually a cryptic message. Trump was the 45th president and is still clinging to the unsubstantiated claim that he won the presidency against Joe Biden in 2020. He has also publicly expressed interest in a third term, which would violate the 22nd Amendment.
And this is the part most people miss... Steve Bannon, the ex-chief strategist of the Trump administration, has echoed this sentiment, even hinting at his own potential run in 2028. So, the numbers in the Stardew Valley image seem to be a thinly veiled message: Trump wants to be president again.
