On Friday, USA Baseball announced a key addition to their late-inning arsenal: Phillies reliever Brad Keller. He'll be joining forces with Mason Miller, Griffin Jax, Gabe Speier, and David Bednar to shut down opposing teams in the crucial final innings.
Keller's arrival is particularly exciting, given his recent performance. He's coming off a breakout season with the Cubs, where he posted a career-best 2.07 ERA and an impressive 9.7 K/9 (strikeouts per nine innings). What's even more remarkable is his comeback story. Just two years removed from a Thoracic Outlet Syndrome injury, Keller's success can be partly attributed to a significant increase in his fastball velocity – nearly four mph faster last year!
