In the 37th minute, a poor clearance from Zidane found its way to Algeria's full-back Aissa Mandi but was intercepted by Alex Iwobi, who quickly passed it to Adams. However, Adams squandered the opportunity, missing the target even though he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Adams came close again in the 82nd minute, hitting the post after being set up by another effort from Osimhen, who demonstrated both persistence and creativity throughout the match.
Algeria may have been fatigued after needing extra time to secure their previous round victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo, which likely contributed to the lackluster performances from several of their key players. In stark contrast, Nigeria had a comfortable 4-0 win against Mozambique just a few days earlier, which perhaps fueled their energy and confidence.
With this victory, Nigeria has now reached the semi-finals 17 times in the last 20 tournaments they have qualified for. They will clash with Morocco in Rabat on Wednesday, a matchup that promises to be thrilling given the stakes.
On the same day, Egypt is set to face Côte d’Ivoire in Agadir, determining who will compete against Senegal in the first semi-final. Egypt, having topped their group with ease, required extra time to defeat Benin, with star player Mohamed Salah adding a late goal to seal a 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, Côte d’Ivoire, the defending champions, secured their place at the top of their group with a dramatic injury-time winner against Gabon and comfortably advanced from their last-16 match against Burkina Faso with a 2-0 win.
