A Top Contender for a Former SEC Commit!
After initially committing to the Georgia Bulldogs last June, three-star wide receiver Gavin Honore (a standout from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas) recently announced his decommitment. This 5-foot-10, 170-pound speedster has a national offer list, but following his decision to reopen his recruitment, he's already zeroed in on two prime options.
“I’m going to try and think carefully about which school I ultimately commit to,” Honore shared. “I really want to take my time and make sure I pick the best option for me. Michigan and Vanderbilt are high on my list right now.”
But here's where it gets interesting for Michigan: they have a significant advantage! The Wolverines have a pre-existing connection with Honore, thanks to their new wide receivers coach, Micah Simon. Simon was actively recruiting Honore when he was at Utah, and that relationship is proving to be a major draw.
“With Michigan, I’ve had a relationship with Coach Micah Simon since he was at Utah, so I’m really looking forward to continuing to build on that,” Honore explained. “He reached out to me after joining the new staff at Michigan, and they’ve been expressing their desire to get me to visit. I’m definitely planning to come over in the spring.”
Honore isn't just a talented receiver; he's also a track and field star! He blazed through the 100-meter dash in an impressive 10.83 seconds at his very first track meet last winter. Currently, he's ranked as the No. 542 overall prospect in the 2027 class by 247Sports' composite rankings.
In-State Offensive Lineman Eager for a Spring Visit!
Even though he received his offer from the previous coaching staff, 2028 three-star offensive lineman Antijuan Wilkes remains highly interested in the Wolverines under their new leadership. This 6-foot-6, 280-pound prospect from Detroit's Cass Tech recently told On3's McDowell that the new coaching staff made a school visit in January. While NCAA rules prevented direct contact with junior prospects at that time, the coaches' presence spoke volumes.
“Honestly, I grew up loving Michigan, so that’s a huge factor, along with the coaches themselves,” Wilkes stated. He was in Ann Arbor for 'The Game' in November and is hoping to return for a visit this spring. He also has plans to visit Oregon, Texas A&M, and Indiana soon.
“I haven’t seen everything yet, but I’d love to see the locker room, the weight room, how they focus on strength development, and what their keys to success are – all of that,” Wilkes elaborated.
It’s still very early in the recruiting cycle, but Michigan is diligently laying the groundwork with Wilkes and other promising in-state prospects like Deandre Bidden and Donald Tabron in the 2028 class.
