Michelle Yeoh, a Vision of Art and Science in Iris Van Herpen's Masterpiece
When Sarah Jessica Parker made a splash at the New York City Ballet's annual Fall Fashion Gala in a winged, origami-inspired design by Iris van Herpen, the Dutch designer became an overnight sensation. Now, Michelle Yeoh has once again brought the artist to the forefront of our minds.
At the premiere of her musical film, Wicked: For Good, at Universal Studios in Singapore, Yeoh looked like a true work of art in a strapless van Herpen gown. The dress, part of the designer's Fall/Winter 2025 Couture collection, featured a plunging, metallic silver corset bodice and a voluminous sheer brown skirt in van Herpen's signature 3D honeycomb weave, a design that also graced SJP's gala look.
This creation perfectly embodies the themes van Herpen explores in her work, particularly the intricate relationships and contradictions between humans, nature, and technology. Yeoh's ensemble was further enhanced by a long necklace of cascading silver spheres, complementing the metallic sheen of her gown. Her choppy, honey-blonde bob added a touch of edginess to the overall look.
Her co-stars, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, also shone in their respective outfits. Grande wore a silver-and-white tutu-like gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline and buttons down the center, while Erivo stood out in a sculptural black Vivienne Westwood corset gown with sheer lace details, a cloud-like skirt, and a choker.
The highly anticipated release of Wicked: For Good is set for November 21, and Yeoh's performance in this film is sure to leave a lasting impression, much like her stunning appearance at the premiere.
