Left-handed Relief Pitcher John King Signs with Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins have bolstered their bullpen by signing left-handed reliever John King to a one-year deal, according to an AP source. The 31-year-old King, who became a free agent in November after being non-tendered by the St. Louis Cardinals, will earn $1.5 million for the season. King had a 2-1 record with a 4.66 ERA in 51 appearances with the Cardinals last year. He spent the previous 2.5 seasons in St. Louis after starting his MLB career with the Texas Rangers in 2020. Over his career, King is 16-14 with a 3.80 ERA in 253.1 innings.
The Marlins have been active in free agency, recently signing right-handed pitchers Chris Paddack and Pete Fairbanks, as well as utility player Christopher Morel. King will join Cade Gibson, Josh Simpson, and Andrew Nardi as the Marlins' left-handed relievers on their 40-man roster. The team's recent moves demonstrate their commitment to strengthening their bullpen and improving their overall pitching depth.
