Grand Theft Auto VI's Release Date Postponed Once More to November 2026
Gamers eagerly awaiting the most anticipated title in years will have to wait a little longer. Take-Two Interactive announced on Thursday that Grand Theft Auto VI will be delayed once more, this time until November 19, 2026, a little over a year from now. This delay comes after the company had set a May 2026 release date earlier this year, pushing the title out of 2025 and causing an estimated $2.7 billion hit to the gaming business.
The delay was revealed as part of Take-Two Interactive's quarterly earnings report. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated, "Rockstar Games will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, and we remain both excited and confident they will deliver an unrivaled blockbuster entertainment experience."
Rockstar Games explained in a blog post, "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City."
Grand Theft Auto VI is by far the most anticipated video game in years, with the last trailer from May garnering 475 million views across platforms, a metric that Rockstar says smashed all other video game (and for that matter film) records. The follow-up to Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, is expected to build on the platform it established. Details on Grand Theft Auto VI remain scarce, though it will be set in and around Vice City, the GTA universe's version of Miami, Florida.
The long development cycle for the open-world franchise, which relies on cinematic flair to engage players, is underscored by the release dates of Grand Theft Auto V (2013) and Grand Theft Auto 4 (2008).
