A suspect linked to pipe bombs outside the DNC and RNC headquarters reportedly told FBI investigators that he believed the 2020 election was stolen, according to people familiar with the interviews. This disclosure could represent a first sign of a possible motive behind the devices placed near the political party offices, the sources added.
Brian Cole, 30, was apprehended by federal agents on Thursday on charges that he transported an explosive device across state lines and attempted to destroy property using fire and explosives.
Authorities say Cole spent extensive time with FBI interviewers, offering several statements during the questioning. A Fox News report cited Dan Bongino, the deputy FBI director, saying the bureau conducted lengthy interviews but did not provide further details.
Both the FBI and the Justice Department declined to comment on the developing case.
Investigators believe Cole amassed bomb-making materials over a period of months prior to leaving the potentially viable devices outside the political offices.
Cole is scheduled to appear in court later on Friday and has not entered a plea yet.
This is an ongoing story and further updates are expected.
