NRM's Strategic Mobilization in Bukedi: Securing a Strong Base for President Museveni's Visit
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is gearing up for a crucial campaign in the Bukedi region, with a focus on strengthening its support network ahead of President Yoweri Museveni's upcoming tour. This strategic mobilization aims to counter the growing influence of opposition parties and secure a decisive victory for the NRM.
At the forefront of this effort is Patrick Godfrey Wakida, a former policy expert for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the NRM's candidate for the Kabweri Constituency in Kibuku District. Wakida is leading a comprehensive campaign to rally support for all NRM candidates in the region, including the presidential campaign of President Museveni.
The mobilization drive was officially launched by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who emphasized the importance of grassroots leaders in anchoring the party's agenda and delivering votes through local council structures. Among urged the leaders to intensify voter outreach, stating, 'We have no one else to rely on for mobilizing the party here. You are our agents.'
Among's address to the crowds highlighted the direct impact of local leaders on the performance of NRM candidates. She encouraged voters to support leaders who can enhance household incomes and accelerate development, using Bukedea as an example. Among said, 'Before I became the leader of Bukedea, the area was underdeveloped, but now look at how Bukedea has transformed. So, let's elect leaders like Dr. Wakida if we want real development.'
Among also emphasized the potential of an NRM victory to bring about significant improvements in health services, schools, and livelihoods, which she believes will help address persistent poverty in Bukedi. She argued that this comprehensive approach would contribute to the region's overall development.
Wakida, the NRM's flag bearer for Kabweri Constituency, pledged to prioritize the enhancement of social services. He urged voters to reject independent candidates, emphasizing the need for a unified political leadership in the region. Wakida stated, 'The state of our roads, schools, and hospitals is unacceptable. These issues have driven me into leadership.'
NRM leaders in the region express confidence in consolidating the party's base as campaigns intensify. They view this mobilization effort as crucial for delivering service improvements and economic transformation across Bukedi, positioning it as a key strategy for the region's development.
