While some, like leading businessman Henry Carver, argue for its demolition, citing its alleged unsustainability, others see potential in its revival. The building's unique crescent-shaped recess, a remnant of its original design, has become a point of contention, with plans to restore it by removing a modern foyer extension.
And this is the part most people miss... The story takes an intriguing turn with the involvement of Pragnesh Modhwadia, a lawyer who formed SSYS Beatties Ltd. Work began on converting the building into flats, but the company's financial troubles led to receivership in 2023. Mr. Modhwadia now faces trial over alleged fraud at his former law firm, Axion Ince.
The Eden group, with its revised £70 million redevelopment plans, aims to transform the upper floors into 306 apartments while retaining the ground floor for commercial use. But will they receive the necessary funding to bring this vision to life?
