Program Overview
The YLR Program is a comprehensive initiative that equips researchers with the tools they need to excel. Through mentorship from ACET’s Senior Fellows, peer collaboration, and networking opportunities, participants learn to translate complex research into practical solutions. Imagine presenting your findings at international conferences or publishing your work in influential forums—this program makes it possible. But here’s the controversial part: while many programs focus on theoretical research, YLR boldly prioritizes policy-relevant, context-driven work. Isn’t that the kind of research Africa truly needs?
Who Can Apply?
If you’re an African national or permanent resident, aged 35 or younger, with a master’s degree (or higher) in economics or related fields, this program is for you. But it’s not just about qualifications—ACET is looking for leaders with a passion for Africa’s development. Whether you’ve honed your research skills through internships, personal projects, or community initiatives, your commitment to making a difference is what matters most.
What’s in It for You?
Selected participants receive a research grant of up to $15,000, mentorship from top experts, and access to a vibrant community of like-minded researchers. But here’s the real game-changer: the program doesn’t just fund your research—it amplifies your voice, ensuring your work reaches policymakers and development leaders across the continent.
Research Focus Areas
YLR encourages participants to explore critical areas such as gender equality, regional integration, innovation and digital policy, and green industrial transformation. For instance, how can digital policies bridge the economic gap in rural areas? Or, what strategies can ensure women’s participation in intra-African trade? These are the kinds of questions YLR researchers will tackle. But here’s a thought-provoking question: Are we focusing enough on green industrial transformation to secure Africa’s future in a climate-conscious world?
Application Process
Ready to apply? Submit a concept note (max. 800 words), a statement of purpose (max. 500 words), your CV, and two references by November 21, 2025. The process kicks off on September 30, 2025, with rolling reviews until the deadline. Interviews will be held on December 8, and the cohort will be announced on December 18.
